Book Review
Dark Needs at Night's Edge is an entrancing book. Vampire Conrad Wroth, driven mad by the memories of others, is imprisoned in Elancourt, a gothic manor house. Inside, his brothers do not see the beautiful ghost who haunts the scene of her murder, but Conrad sees her. He desires her. Her presence calms his insanity and soon, he wants only to find a way for them to be together.
The tale of Conrad Wroth and Néomi Laress is nothing but toe-curling goodness. Conrad is full of rage over what he's become, and he knows he's crazy with the bloodlust that comes from drinking the blood from his victims as they die. However, he's not unredeemable, and I appreciated that as a reader. When I read, I live in a fantasy world where evil is never tolerated, and justice is served in often unique ways.
I also appreciated the ability of the author to bring Conrad's madness to the written page. Her use of present tense was especially effective. The immediacy, the feeling of something being just a little off, followed each passage in Conrad's viewpoint in the early parts of the book, and these all worked to bring his crazed thoughts to life. Tortured, mad, and with the ability to keep the most stringent of vows, Conrad is without a doubt one of my favorite romance heroes in recent times.
Néomi haunts Conrad. She's fascinated by him. She's tender, and passionate, and comes to believe Conrad is worth saving. She also believes she might just be able to save him. Néomi's frustration with her insubstantial form, or lack thereof, gives humor to a story that could have been steeped in dark drama. As it was, Dark Needs has a perfect combination of sexy, stomach-churning tension, story, humor, love, action, and suspense--this book has it all in perfect proportion!
It didn't take me long before I started to worry about how these two would overcome their obstacles so they could be together forever, and I worried until the brilliantly satisfying end.
And of course, I can't fail to bring up the mention of Dirty Job's star Mike Rowe. Nix isn't the only fan. ;-)

Book Description
A raven-haired temptress of the dark...
Néomi Laress, a famous ballerina from a past century, became a phantom the night she was murdered. Imbued with otherworldly powers but invisible to the living, she haunts her beloved home, scaring away trespassers—until she encounters a ruthless immortal even more terrifying than Néomi herself.
A vampire warrior consumed by madness...
To prevent him from harming others, Conrad Wroth's brothers imprison him in an abandoned manor. But there, a female only he can see seems determined to drive him further into madness. The exquisite creature torments him with desire, leaving his body racked with lust and his soul torn as he finds himself coveting her for his own.
How far will he go to claim her?
Yet even if Conrad can win Néomi, evil still surrounds her. Once he returns to the brutality of his past to protect her, will he succumb to the dark needs seething inside him?
