Book Review
I can't recommend this book highly enough (the entire series, actually). I love sci-fi, fantasy, mystery, humor, and of course, steamy sex, and I found it all in this book by Ms. Black. I bought the entire series then read them all over one (long) weekend. And wow, was it worth it!
Why I liked The Empress' New Clothes
"Mate? We have to mate or I'll die?"
"That is correct."
Kyra's silvery gaze narrowed suspiciously. "How often must we mate?"
Zor wasted no time in taking advantage of her ignorance. "At least once every moon-rising."
Kyra had no reason to doubt his word. What she knew about suicidal bridal necklaces was about as much as she knew about Zor, which was next to nothing. So she swallowed—roughly. She'd often heard that sex could kill, but she'd never before realized the same thing could happen with abstinence. "What happens if we don't mate every day?" she asked hesitantly.
Zor regarded her grimly. He was pleased to note that he could actually make his face pale on cue. "The bridal necklace will strangle you," he whispered hoarsely.
I found it a fascinating experience to be simultaneously turned on to the nth degree while laughing my head off. Ms. Black's characters jumped off the page and stole my breath with their quirkiness.
The Empress' New Clothes exceeded all my expectations. The characters were interesting and likeable, and the storyline was no more far-fetched than any other sci-fi/fantasy novel.
I found a certain resemblance to my all-time favorite book, Warrior's Woman by Johanna Lindsey, but taken to another level of sexual intensity. Maybe that contributed to why I enjoyed the book so much since I still adore Warrior's Woman, but whatever the reason, I most definitely did enjoy this book!
