Hot Rec: Warlord, plus some site news

Although I haven't yet posted the reviews for the latest books I've devoured (yes that's the exact word for it since they've all been delicious!), I have a new recommendation for your reading pleasure.

Warlord by Angela Knight is a plot heavy, sex-ational action and romance collection. Warlord contains Jane's Warlord, an additional novella, and two short stories. I had heard Jane's Warlord was fabulous, but I hadn't gotten around to reading it yet. I might wish I had already read it but then I wouldn't be having so much fun reading it now, would I? Reading: Shifter (anthology)

I'm reading Shifter, a Berley Sensation paranormal romance anthology (March 2008), which contains stories by Angela Knight, Lora Leigh, Alyssa Day and Virginia Kantra. I've only made it into the second story, A Jaguar's Kiss by Lora Leigh, but it was torture to put the book down. There are things I must do today, and that means I can't spend the day reading which is too, too bad, because I could easily read this book in one sitting (especially if the next two stories are as good as the first two). New Release! Dream Guardians Book 2 — Heat of the Night

Only 4 days until the second Dream Guardians book is out! (Heat of the Night is book 2 in the Dream Guardians series. Catch Pleasures of the Night (Dream Guardians, Book 1) if you haven't already.)

He is a vision from every woman's erotic fantasies. Existing in the twilight beneath sleep and consciousness, Connor brings them decadent pleasures, fueled by their sexual energy. But violence and strife now tear apart both worlds, and Connor must embark upon a quest into the mortal realm…and into the arms of one intoxicating enchantress.

Stacey Daniels has always been attracted to the wrong type of men—and the muscular, Viking-like champion on her front doorstep is no exception. She can hardly believe the wounded warrior is from another world, a world where erotic dreams are needed to survive, a world of terrible danger that has followed him to her home. Connor finds solace in her passion, but only time will tell if he can defeat the dark foe who hunts them…and if Stacey can surrender to the promise he offers with every electrifying touch.

If you read the book before I do, spill its secrets here. I have no problem with spoilers—I do have a problem with disappointing endings. Let me know if this book is worth the wait!

Avon Red

Here's an interesting press release I came across today about Avon's new “Red” imprint.

Avon Red will feature a diverse array of editorial content, such as historical erotic fiction, contemporary erotic fiction, paranormal erotic fiction and ethnic erotic fiction. “We're positioning this as smart, sexy literature for women of all ages,” says Morrow/Avon editor May Chen, “It's not your mother's romance novel—or maybe it is.” She notes that Avon Red novels are not just about sex; they focus on desire, and each novel/novella features powerful plot lines, apart from the more explicit content. These books are not traditional romances—there may not be a happily ever after; the stories may not focus on solely two romantic protagonists.

INTRODUCING AVON RED New Line from Leading Women's Fiction Publisher Offers the Pinnacle of Sexy Fiction

I haven't decided if I'll feature these books on this website except on a case-by-case basis (my focus is romance after all). On the other hand, I've been showcasing the Black Lace books for years and their claim to romance is tenuous at best. :)

May Blaze books

The May books from Blaze have been added to the site.

Included are new additions to a lot of the recent Blaze miniseries.

If you're following any of these miniseries, don't miss the new additions.

Updates to the Blaze book list

I've done updates to the Harlequin Blaze 2006 book list for the new books for March and April. You can find the list here: Blaze 2006 books.

I've noticed several new installments in some of the Blaze miniseries, so if you're following any miniseries in particular, you'll want to check them out.

There are new books in these miniseries:

  • Miniseries: 24 Hours: Island Fling
  • Miniseries: The Wrong Bed
  • Miniseries: It's All About Attitude
  • Miniseries: The White Star
  • Miniseries: After Hours

Harlequin Blaze: Are they getting shorter?

As mentioned in this blog post, Harlequin is changing the word count lengths for some of their lines, including Harlequin Blaze. Blaze used to ask that manuscripts be 70,000 to 75,000 words long (and the Blaze guidelines on the eHarlequin website still show this number).

Does this mean our Blaze books are going to get shorter?

I find it interesting to see that Blaze may soon be near the same length as the former Temptation line.

I've always thought Blaze killed Tempation. Is Harlequin now trying to pull in some of the readers who preferred the shorter Temptations over the Blaze books?

It's funny to note that the readers' complaints about the too small print have translated not into bigger print and more pages, but to less story. Ah, how lovely it is to see someone address our complaints….
